USC Impacts Students And Teachers

Every month, The Urban Scholastic Center empowers more than 100 volunteers to serve in urban Kansas City, Kansas.  April Frederick, a teacher from Mark Twain Elementary School, shares how The USC is making an impact:

“The mission of The Urban Scholastic Center to develop responsible Christian leaders in our community is shining through at Mark Twain Elementary. The fourth- and fifth-grade students who participate in Life Enrichment, USC’s after-school program, come to school full of energy and ready to share the Christian education they receive on a regular basis. The children who participate in the Soul Food ministry on Wednesday evenings have a safe place to go to worship and praise God. The mentors and volunteers bring so much passion and energy to the school; they are always willing to do whatever we need them to do. Also, the books that USC provides our students are allowing them to build their own personal libraries. These books are not only cherished by the students but they are also helping to build better readers.

“We are very lucky to have a community partner like The Urban Scholastic Center. The leaders, mentors, volunteers, and children lead by example, and they truly inspire me on a regular basis to not only be a better teacher but also be a better person.”
